Shark and His Visitors: A Book About Big Feelings

Kristen Perrotti

“Shark does not like when big feelings visit him. Anger, Worry, Sadness, and Guilt are unwelcome guests that make his face feel fiery and his jaw clench tight. The heavy breathing through his gills just doesn’t feel right! Shark’s mother teaches him that feelings are like visitors…they WILL go away. Will Shark allow his big feelings in, or keep them knocking at his front door?

Parents, caregivers, educators, and mental health professionals can use this rhyming picture book as a tool to remind children that big feelings are temporary. Just like visitors…feelings come and they go. Although the somatic symptoms can be uncomfortable, big feelings do not have to be scary. We can name our big feelings, allow ourselves to experience the emotion, and do our unwanted tasks anyways.”
